Promoting Workplace Learning

Promotion of Scottish workplace learning

We have joined with Sector Skills Alliance Scotland (SSAScot), 20 other Sector Skills Councils and six sector skills bodies to drive forward the development of a skilled and competitive Scottish workforce through the innovative and effective project; Promoting Workplace Learning.

Workplace Learning DVD

The project's main information tool, an interactive DVD, hopes to encourage investment in work-related learning and raise employer awareness towards what constitutes cost effective and ‘fit-for-purpose' training. A recent report by Futureskills Scotland intimated that less than two-thirds of workplaces had funded or arranged training in the preceding 12 months. It is hoped the Promoting Workplace Learning project can help to improve this statistic and Scotland's place as a competitive economy.

The DVD comprises an introductory film followed by a series of five case studies that demonstrate employer's commitment to workplace learning. In addition the Financial Services DVD includes case studies from financial services employers in Scotland sharing their experiences and illustrating the value of workplace learning plus information on training and accreditation.

Workplace Learning Evaluation Tool

A further outcome of this collaborative work is a Workplace Learning Evaluation Tool. This Evaluation Tool can help measure the benefit business gets from spending time and money training or instructing employees in the workplace.
