General Takaful
National Occupational Standards for General Takaful
Approved in 2009, these National Occupational Standards (NOS) include units focusing on settling straightforward and complex Takaful claims, evaluating Takaful products and services, and reviewing underwriting decisions to accept Takaful business.
Background information
These National Occupational Standards are aimed at individuals working in an insurance environment supporting Islamic Finance products and services.
They mirror Standards for General Insurance developed for roles in a conventional insurance environment. As such, they contain competence requirements for people working in insurance claims, intermediation and underwriting, and cover straightforward and complex business.
Those for claims deal with assessing, investigating and settling insurance claims, including claims for insured and uninsured losses. Those for intermediation cover new business, renewals and mid-term amendments, and those for underwriting cover underwriting risks, processing documentation and processing renewals and alterations.
The National Occupational Standards
The project to develop these National Occupational Standards was launched in July 2008, and they were approved for publication by the qualification regulators in September 2009.
