  Accountancy and finance
 

Employment in finance functions and accountancy firms in Wales was over 35,000 between April to June 2010. Over three quarters of Wales’ accountancy and finance employees were employed in the finance function across industry and commerce and the public and not-for-profit sectors. The remaining were employed in accountancy firms.  Across occupational groups, nearly half of the individuals worked as qualified accountants.

  Financial services
 

Wales contributes almost 3 per cent to the industry’s workforce.  Cardiff accounts for more than a third of all financial services employment in the Wales and is focused mostly on call centre work, retail banking and back-office banking operations, life insurance and pension funding. The majority of the nation’s workforce is employed in firms with more than 250 employees. Firms with 1 - 49 employees are the second largest employer.
