Diploma in BAF

Introduced in England in September 2008, the Diploma is a new qualification that combines theoretical study with practical experience. People between the ages of 14 - 19 can study a Diploma, which helps students to develop the skills and experience that employers and universities are looking for. Studying for a Diploma will involve learning in the classroom, spending time in an environment more like a workplace, and work experience with an employer. In September 2009, the Diploma in Business, Administration and Finance will be available in schools and colleges.

What will I learn?
Alongside learning about Business, Administration and Finance, students study English, maths and ICT, and will choose from a range of optional courses. Each Diploma involves working on a project and 10 days work experience, putting the skills being learnt into practice.

Each Diploma will involve a mix of:

  • Principal learning which focuses on developing the knowledge and skills that are needed for business, administration and finance, with a real emphasis on learning by doing.
  • Generic learning is the compulsory English, maths and ICT skills needed to deal with everyday life - as well as giving a good grounding in the personal, learning and thinking skills.
  • Additional and specialist learning, are the extra subjects that are taken beside the Diploma.
