We place great emphasis on the fact that employers rule; that is the ethos under which we operate. It is in this spirit of employers being at the heart of all we do that we have decided that it is time for a change. With accountancy and its associated professions now within our remit it is clear that we cannot continue to charge membership fees based on number of employees as the market is so disparate it is no longer viable to operate this traditional membership model. Against the current economic backdrop we understand that every penny counts and a more flexible approach is called for. We would not want to see membership becoming a barrier to the industry working with us. |
More importantly, we have recently been speaking to employers across the UK via a series of focus groups and online survey. You, the industry, have told us that you would like to see a move away from the existing membership model to a more flexible arrangement.
We have therefore decided to phase out the existing membership scheme to enable all firms and individuals across the UK to engage with us effectively.
That said we would still welcome financial support from employers on a more flexible basis, to ensure we collectively contribute to building an industry that retains its position as a world leader. Through our dialogue with industry the clear message from employers is that they are committed to continuing to help to support the areas of work we undertake that aren't covered by government funding.
At this difficult time for the industry, this move to a more flexible ‘supporters' model is our contribution to the future and we are confident that the industry is going to support us.
Skills truly matter whether in bad times or in good. We passionately believe that skills are a critical factor in determining a healthy industry now, and in the years to come.
